Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a 2025 Macan Turbo Electric and I’m having trouble charging it at home with my Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector.

Setup and background:
  • I’m using a Lectron Tesla-to-J1772 adapter
  • This same wall charger previously worked fine with a 2020 Taycan Turbo and a 2025 BMW M5, so I’m confident the charger itself is OK
  • At the Porsche dealer I was able to charge my Macan with a Porsche wall charger with no issues
What’s happening now:
  • When I plug in at home with the Lectron adapter, the Tesla wall connector clicks a few times
  • Then the Porsche app shows: “Error: Charging not possible…”
  • The car never starts charging and this happens every time
Possibly related issue:
  • I’m also seeing a problem with Plug & Charge
  • In the Charging Settings, when I tap “Request certificate” it fails with a “No certificate available…” message
  • Not sure if this is related to the home charging issue or just a separate problem

It feels like the Macan isn’t completing the handshake with the Tesla Wall Connector, even though other cars have worked fine on this setup. Has anyone else run into this with a 2025 Macan (or other Macan EV) and a Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector plus Lectron adapter? If so, were you able to fix it, and how?

Thanks in advance for any ideas or troubleshooting tips.

have you tried both charging ports on the Macan?

is this adapter known to work with other EV's?

Yes I’ve tried both charge ports on either side of the car and I’ve previously used this Tesla Wall charger with other EVs. Weirdly, I tried the Porsche Level 1 charger that you get with the vehicle and that didn’t work either.

I went to a Porsche dealership and tried the Porsche Level 2 charger and that worked.

Could my car software be set somehow to only work at Porsche dealerships? Crazy question but I’m out of ideas at this point.

if the Porsche charger that came with the car is not working - it's the car - bring the charger and the car to Porsche and let them sort it out…

at this point it's likely the car.

Update **

I took the car into a Porsche dealership this morning and they informed me that the Level 1 charger I received with the car is for a Hybrid vehicle and not a Macan. I also verified that another Level 2 charger works with the vehicle. So at this point, I wonder if the vehicle is just incompatible with a Tesla Wall Charger.

hmmmm - L1 chargers should work fine - hybrid and EV's use the same EVSE protocol and charging power - but at this point in time I'm not sure what to tell you - I own 3 x Gen3 Tesla Wall Chargers and they all charge my 2024 Macan Turbo just fine.

My Macan Turbo also works with my Tesla gen3 wall charger. It is a EU model though, so I don’t use any adapter. Maybe your issue comes from your adapter

The dealership sent a porter to my house in a different Macan and I tested my Tesla charger on that one and it charged without any issues. So something is up with my car. They took it back to the shop and will work on diagnosing and fixing it. Hopefully it ends up being a simple software issue.

Did you have a chance to check the software version on both cars ? Yes that could be a “simple” software update to fix it.

Oh no, I didn't even think of that but they did confirm when I bought the car that it had the latest firmware.

Sorry to read about your trouble. I have a Tesla charger and I have no problem charging my 25 Macan Turbo (delivered 10/29). I also tested the charger with a Macan Turbo that I took for an extended test drive (2025 at the dealer May of this year). I was using the charger on a Polestar P2 which worked well.

Not sure if you have a Tesla Wall Connector or a Tesla Universal Wall Connector, but for the record, the Tesla Universal Wall Connector is designed for charging both Tesla and non-Tesla vehicles, while the standard Wall Connector is for Tesla vehicles only.

it makes no difference - all Tesla Wall Connectors offer compatibility as a pure-simple J-1772 EVSE…and can be configured to be : Tesla Only, Tesla-only vin-limited, "compatible" - they come from the factory in default mode of "Any Electric Vehicle"…

Electric Macan EV 2025 Macan Turbo EV won’t charge with Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector (Lectron adapter) IMG_0060

also it's clear from the feedback this particular Tesla unit can charge other EV's - just not this specific Macan…that indicates a problem/fault with the OBC on the Macan…

EVSE's (even Tesla's) are not in fact chargers are all - they are glorified GFI like-power supplies that simply turn on/off a raw flow of AC power under the Car (J-1772) protocol control…

and adapters are not that complicated

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/faq-why-does-the-teslatap-work.6817/

the Tesla Universal Connector is just a normal Tesla EVSE with a J-1772 adapter built into the charging cord holster…it's pretty nifty actually.

To your point, Tesla wall connectors are called connectors rather than chargers because they don’t charge, only connect power to the vehicle charging system.

2 thoughts:
1. Make sure that there isn't a charging schedule conflict between the Tesla wall connector and the car. Even if it's on the same schedule, the instruction should originate on one side only.
2. I've been using a Tesla wall connector with an adapter for a year and only recently started having issues. It appears to have started with the November Fall-back time change which caused the underlying time zone to be out of synch between the car and app. The car updated correctly (time zone and time) but the app didn't. Manual updating didn't help. I didn't notice this until I tried to increase the battery charge to 100% for an upcoming trip and couldn't. Somewhere along the line I also got an error message (Fast Charging not possible. AC charging possible, visit workshop) and the Fast Charge door no longer opens. Dealership tried walking me through various screens to no avail and told me to call PCNA. They checked their dbase and drew a blank so they pushed me back to dealership. When I tried to drive there, car would no go into Drive or Reverse, so it was towed and I was told they won't even look at it for a couple of weeks. Not sure if these issues are somehow connected but they seem to be and the only other potential accomplice might have been washing the car (by hand) preceding my attempt to increase the charging to 100%. Hope you didn't/don't catch the same bug or any part thereof!
