The EU versions don't have side reflectors, but they do have the flap. So I don't think it has anything to do with the reflectors. I think it's because the 21- and 22-inch wheels are 10mm wider than the 20-inch. Photo of my 21-inch wheel with the flap:

Vesuvius gray is available in 21". The 22" RS Spyder wheel can be painted in Vesuvius gray.

On my BMW Z4 I had to hold the button to open the tailgate for two seconds. This also prevents you from accidentally opening the tailgate by pressing the button once briefly.

I've used it a few times on fairly small spaces and it works very well. I was also afraid of the curbs but it stays nicely a bit away from them.

Have the wheels balanced, maybe that will help. And possibly check the alignment of the car.
