Why do the Porsche Design engineers place the USB ports in inaccessible or awkward locations? Doesn't anyone on these high price teams look at other cars for location ideas and functionality? Ugh! My Tacan was equally difficult.

The general idea is that the USB ports serve storage spaces and should work with things plugged in out of sight. People generally don't frequently connect or disconnect things from the car side, and leaving a cable loosely across the center console is not a look everyone enjoys.

You can always get a USB extension cord to put things front and center for easier access, but you can't hide exposed USB ports. So the ports are tucked away and then you can use accessories to meet personal preferences.

Being invisible from the driver's seat is maybe taking that to an extreme, though.

Yep, I get it, but sometimes it's nice to be able to charge things, like your computer without lying on the pavement to see where the charging port is located. Thanks for the reply and letting me vent.

Such a funny visual! I've found that just leaning over the console toward the passenger seat is enough to spot them, or reaching through the cupholders to feel them out works. But they are definitely tucked up there.

I have one 1-foot USB-C to USB-C cable connected and snaked through the hole of the wireless charging compartment. I normally don’t use that and use wireless charging, it’s there as a backup in case the phone is too hot.

In addition to that I have a 3-foot universal charging cable (no data transfer) connected and curled up in the storage tray. It can charge multiple devices at the same time at up to 100W. I do have some stuff that requires Mini USB charging, and two friends have older iPhones with Lightning connectors.

My pet peeve with usb-c ports is that manufacturers deliberately do not install usb-c ports in the rear view mirror and rear window area.
You could then install in few seconds (plug-in a short usb-c cable) any dashcam known to man and have front/interior/rear recording.
Of course they would lose thousands selling you their own branded dashcam preparation kits, ungainly last century dashcams, hourly long installation options where they have to take apart half the car just to install 2 interior cameras.
Luckily VW group is offering the rear view mirror usb-c on some of their models.
We don't all have Teslas so if manufacturers are unable to offer 360 recording they should at least offer a dashcam usable usb-c port.

There are 2 USB C ports, one of which you can wire through the hole in the phone storage shelf if you want to and close the lid for when not in use. This way it's clean and minimalistic. Also the car is designed to be wireless by default (wireless carplay/android auto + wireless charging), so it doesn't make sense to have the ports visible. I think the current design is better and more elegant of a solution. I'm not a fan of the wireless charging so I use a cable that I routed through the hole and plug in when I want, but that's my choice.

For the passenger, I have this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D9NPDLG3, which can be angled so it can be easily pulled out through the side hole on the handle.
