Is the thinking here that ignoring it could cause issues further down the line?

If the screw that caused the puncture is removed it would probably leak, so should be addressed sooner rather than later.

Prime candidate for a plug!

It was glass apparently. Tyre place suggest plug with patch behind - Porsche 2 new tyres £960!

Had a puncture on my few hundred miles old McLaren and went to Ameria’s tire. They took out the tire and patched it free of charge. Gave the guy $20. No issue.

Mine isn’t actually losing air - it’s a cut - tire place reckon they can make a hole and plug it ?

On a performance car driven hard, plugs often are cut and fall out at inopportune times. Tire shops in this area won't do them. Steel cords will cut them. You need a patch on the inside, plug optional.

On the everyday grocery getter it is not as much a worry. I've plugged a few newer tires myself. Most of the time they last the life of the tire.

They have a limit of how big the damage is I believe 1/4 inch and it has to be out of the side walls etc. I am not sure if the cut you have can be repaired.

I had a huge bolt in my tire. Cost about $400 for replacement.
