I’ve been having an issue with my Macan 4S for the past two months, and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.
It started when the car was charged to 80%, but the estimated range was only about 120 miles. At first, I assumed it was just a range estimation (algorithm) issue, so I kept driving. After about 50 miles, I almost got stranded. With the battery still showing 30%, the estimated remaining range had dropped to only 15 miles, and the low battery warning appeared.
I had to stop at a Tesla Supercharger and spend about 30 minutes charging just to get the battery back to 50%. My average efficiency during the drive was 3.1 mi/kWh, so the range estimate made no sense.
I took the vehicle to the dealer, where they kept it for three days. They updated the battery software and performed battery charge/discharge testing. After that, the car showed about 300 miles of range at 100% charge. The service department told me they found an issue with one of the battery modules that was not charging properly, which had significantly reduced the battery’s usable capacity.
However, after being away for a week, I came back to find the car showing only 160 miles of range with a 75% state of charge. I drove it down to 35% and then charged it on a Level 2 charger to 85%. Once again, it is only showing 162 miles of estimated range.
Has anyone experienced similar behavior? At this point, I don’t think this is just a software or range estimation issue. It seems more like there’s an intermittent battery module problem that wasn’t fully resolved.
