My free period is about to expire, and I am wondering if any of you have become EA subscribers and if you use their app? Also, can being a subscriber work if you use plug and charge or will Porsche payments override the subscription?

I don't use it enough to warrant the monthly subscription fee - I just do pay as you go - mostly likely via the Porsche Charging Service since that's plug&charge…

Same problem exists with Tesla chargers. Undiscounted pricing through the Porsche app or discounted pricing through Tesla. On a Rivian the workaround is to initiate the charge through the Tesla app, and then plug it in. If you plug it in without having initiated the app the Plug and Charge undiscounted pricing applies.

Save your money. Had no real value to me, more expensive and some issues at stations. I'd recommend skipping it and using Tesla subscription instead.

As others said, no, you cannot get the membership discount (EA or SC) if you let the car start the session with P&C. If the car grabs the session first, the car's wallet is paying for it (no discount). The way to get the app to grab the session (and pay for it with the app wallet, and get the discount) is to start the session in the app first before plugging in.

Both EA and SC are monthly subscriptions. You only need to be subscribed for the 30 day period you need to charge. You can go into the app to activate the subscription, it'll charge your card, then you can immediately cancel it if you want. That gives you 30 days of discount and won't auto-renew. In most cases, that's all people need (an upcoming road trip).

The Tesla membership costs more than the EA membership ($12.99 vs $7.00). Both knock about 25% off the base price.

The base price at each station varies. Sometimes Superchargers are cheaper, sometimes EA is cheaper. Just depends on where you're traveling.

And if Ionna is available on the route, it's typically much better than both.

In New Mexico, statewide there are limited stations, caused a lot of charging anxiety for me as I make frequent road trips, so i was delighted to add Tesla to my options.

Yes, as a general rule SCs are more dependable, have bigger stations, and better coverage than EA.

But on the downside, SCs are slower (don't support the higher voltage of Porsches), you need to use an adapter, and you have to be careful to check that it's not a V2 station (incompatible with non-Teslas).

Pros and cons to both EA and SC.

I believe we can delete the EA subscription certificate from the car. This will remove the Plug and Charge authentication that happens automatically when you connect the plug.
NOTE: This however would remove the P&C option forever...

you can simply toggle plug&charge "off" with out removing the certificate…see screen shot below from the charging settings options in my 2024 Macan Turbo EV

this setting does NOT require you to remove/alter the charging account certificate…

in fact in my experience when I can not get plug&charge to function sometimes it's because this option is toggled into the "off" position for some reason…

once this setting is in the "off" position you'll need to activate your charging session via what ever mechanisms are appropriate for the charging network you're attempting to use - in my experience I've had success using:
  • myPorsche app charging service/map charging interface to start a charging session - even with plug&charge disabled you can still use the myPorsche app to start a charging session at supported charging networks (EA, ChargePoint, Tesla, EVGo)
  • EA app or Point of Sale card reader on the charging stall
  • Tesla App or via the "tap2pay" reader on V4 Superchargers (V3 has no tap2pay support)
  • ChargePoint app
  • other non-Plug&Charge charging networks
even if you remove the certificate it can be reinstalled, although the process is overly complex and requires patience…
