Chicago - Cincinnati August 2026 road trip (630 miles round trip)

I took a road trip with my MY 25 Macan 4S last weekend from Chicago's suburbs to the Cincinnati Open (Mason, OH). About 315 miles each way and we stopped in Lebanon, IN to use the Tesla supercharger network with the Porsche adapter. Plug and charge worked with no issues - charged from the 30s up to 80%. In Mason, OH, I used a local Electrify America charger and plug and charge worked well there too. I feel confident now that I can go anywhere and access both networks without issue.

Excellent report. I am glad that it worked well but that has not been my experience with every Tesla supercharger even though the Tesla is showing supporting non-Tesla vehicles with adapter. I live in Indianapolis and travel frequently to Chicago and Mason Ohio so I know the route and charging stops very well. Also, keep in mind you can charge at a Porsche dealer if you go back to the Cinci Open again as it is one exit before the Tennis arena exit and they are always super nice and give me a free charge when I need it.

If the dealer you’re talking about is in the King’s Automall that’s where I bought my Macan. Very impressed with them so far two years in.

Glad to have details on this route. The run between Cincinnati and Mackinaw City is a bit more challenging, but increasingly possible especially with the adapter as an option.

Yes, King's Automall and it is literally right off the highway so it is a 5 min hop to charge and then the Tennis venue is another 10 min to next exit.

My point of caution is that you cannot rely on the Tesla Superchargers as your only charging planning stop, because if there is a small chance it does not work for some reason, then you are stuck. We have really well-developed charging infrastructure in Indianapolis but out of the 3 Tesla Superchargers designated as non-Tesla compatible I tried, only one worked.

This is not to say they are not working on expanded compatibility, but I would always have some form of backup station within range if going long distance.

I also appreciate the feedback about the Porsche dealership in King's Automall. I looked up the closest EA charging station to my hotel (Marriott Cincinnati Northeast) and it was about a seven minute drive to do a fast charge which itself took about 19 minutes. I hear you that not all Tesla supercharger stations will work and I did have an EA backup for each stop "just in case." I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly everything worked and, as I said, I do have more confidence to take these kinds of trips now than I did before.
