Data point.

I just had a screw in my front passenger tire 😭located right at the border of the tread area. Called Porsche service for a tow to dealership overnight. If given an option to replace or repair I likely would have replaced anyways just for peace of mind. However, the next day when Porsche called it was already replaced and they didn't even ask 😆

A dealer will never recommend a repair over a replacement. My car was in for a recall last week and they recommended I replaced both my rear types (and gave me a quote of £900!) because they were down to 3mm - when the legal limit is 1.6mm. It’s a high performance car, and yes, if I were taking it in a track perhaps I’d want peak performance/tread, but I’m fine with my 3mm doing 70/80mph on the M6 for a while yet thanks 😆

I had a puncture due to a screw not that near the edge at 2k miles. The dealer said they never repaired so I asked local tyre dealer for a quote on the Bridgestone replacement. They said that that particular tyre “hadn’t been released” to the independents so I could only get it from/through Porsche dealer - so I did and am approx £500 less well off. Why do Porsche and the chosen tyre dealers create this monopoly?

I had a massive nail in my right rear tires at 5,300 miles — OEM Michelin (22”). The nail was exactly at the intersection of the sidewall and the tread, and never saw this before in my over 2,000,000 miles of driving with quite a few flats along the way, it was sticking out at a 45 degree angle and protruding from the tire at a measured 1 1/4”. Needless to say the tire needed to be replaced. Was disappointed that they did not have one in stock and that is took 3 days before it arrived. While I knew it was going to cost me, its install cost of $709 (USD) was not friendly.

Yes. Of that the tire charge was $150 more than Tire Rack would have charged for the tire itself. But of course a loaner cost has to be paid for somehow.

Crazy. My local Porsche dealer charged their Tire cost (which was about $30 CAD more than the local tire shop if i remembered correct) and $95 CAD for my swap.

Had a screw in my rear tyre for no idea how long and the porsche centre found it when I went in for a laundry list of other issues. Porsche suggest I replace both rears for £700. Bridgestone Potenza at 5k miles with 4mm tread remaining.

Long story short if it's not on the shoulder, plug that shit! Plugged with a Slime repair kit for about £7. That same tyre is now on 12k miles, 3mm tread remaining - a highly non-linear tyre wear rate?
